I absolutely love hosting parties! This week, Margeau, blogger behind Satisfeed and I hosted a kick-off US Open Tennis Party. We both had an absolute blast! When it comes to party planning, it’s all about the details, and when those details are as cute as tennis balls it makes it a whole lot easier!
Eats: It’s easy to narrow things down when you have one thing in mind: tennis balls. As soon as I saw these gumballs, I just KNEW we had to have them at our party. Little did I know they are made by Maria Sharapova, who has her own candy line called “Sugarpova”. Between you and me – this makes me love this tennis star so much more! Haha. They are DELICIOUS.
For this party we wanted easy, simple eats. We hosted this party after work and didn’t want too much fuss. Of course we also wanted to think of ways to incorporate our tennis theme and to come up with ideas that match the whole yellow, green and white theme too! BINGO – macarons. Round, bite size and delicious. We grabbed a tube of white icing and voila! We had TENNIS ball macarons. (Quick tip! We iced them the night before and left them in the fridge overnight so that the icing hardened.)
Just when we thought our “tennis ball” theme couldn’t get any cuter, we discovered TENNIS. BALL. TOOTH. PICKS. I mean how cute are these!? They are DEFINITELY a US Open party MUST! In theme, we added balls of fresh mozzarella, yellow cherry tomatoes and green olives for an easy, delicious anti-pasta appetizer.
Decor: I was so excited that I was able to find neon yellow balloons! In my opinion, balloons are ALWAYS a party must. Side note: you may be asked if it’s your birthday 293859 times *eye roll*. I’ve found that it’s 100 times easier to just say, “well, yes! Yes it is!”, and keep moving. After all, do they really need to know why you’re carrying balloons down Fifth Avenue!? (Nope!) I ordered the balloons online and dropped them off at Party City to pick up later that day. It’s an easy trick when you find specialty balloons or want to save money, since they usually are more expensive in the store. Other than the balloons, neon yellow decor isn’t as easy to find as I thought it would be! So when I came across this adorable wooden tray with neon yellow painted spoons from Dear Keaton, I just KNEW we had to have the set at our US Open tennis party. It was perfect to put our yummy dips in! We did French Onion Dip, Queso Dip and Tzatziki. Our table cloth reminded me of a tennis court and was also under $3 – can you even say no to that?!
Drinks: Keep calm and serve on ACE (aka ice, but for this party we served our cocktails on “ace”! Haha.) The Grey Goose “Honey Deuce” cocktails were a HUGE hit! Everyone was raving about how refreshing and delicious they were. I also loved the carved honeydew garnish, which looked like a set of tennis balls resting on top. 🙂 We also popped straws into Natalie’s fresh lemonade for an easy, non-alcoholic option.
- Grey Goose Vodka
- Raspberry Liqueur
- Fresh Lemonade
- Fresh Honeydew – carved out with a melon baller
Shake fresh lemonade and vodka and pour on “ace”. Pour raspberry liqueur on top (it will sink to the bottom and create an ombre effect). Skewer three melon balls and place on top. Serve chilled!
Outfits: Finding adorable retro tennis outfits was obviously a top priority when planning our US Open Tennis Party. It would not have been the same hadn’t we dressed up! We had so much fun trying to come up with what to wear. In the end, Margaeu wore a darling pleated dress by Tory Sport – Tory Burches new athletic line. I paired a set of throw back red, white and blue sweatbands with a classic Lacoste polo dress.
At the end of the night, it’s just Love, Serving Love! Hopefully we inspired you to throw your own US Open Tennis Party! It’s nice to have an evening like this every once in awhile. If you have any questions, comments or ideas, just comment below – I would love to hear!!!
